Gregory Warren Wilson will be headlining the 4th Festival of Suffolk Poetry on Saturday 27th May 2017, but he will begin the day by leading a workshop Poetry and Music.
Gregory is a violinist, dancer and poet, so is ideally qualified to bring poetry and music together. This is how he describes the workshop:
"Poetry and music have a great deal in common — after all, they are capable of moving us. But how does a poem, which takes us beyond the meaning of the words, actually do this?
In this workshop we will be considering some of the ways in which a poem can be more (or less) musical, and looking at the resources poetry shares with music: sound, rhythm, phrase-lengths, and the cadence of the poem. Above all, what makes a poem lift off the page, and why do we remember poems that do?
Time will be given to kickstart exercises, and to new writing.
Poets of all levels are welcome".
The workshop will begin at 10:00 and finish at 12:30 in the John Peel Centre, Stowmarket, IP14 1ET, 27th May 2017.
Tickets will be available later, but in the meantime you can reserve a place by emailing the Festival Director: firstname.lastname@example.org.
