Welcome to the Suffolk Poetry Society. We have a long tradition of poetry meetings, held at many locations over a large county. Our programme includes the poetry from all periods, music, discussion and improvisation. The poetic imagination is a great shape-shifter. It vivifies. Be absorbed and join us.

Dear Members,
In every corner of our region there are enthusiastic groups who meet to share their love and interest in poetry. One such is the Essex Prose and Poetry society who meet at the Friends Meeting House at Stebbing in North Essex.
Suffolk Poetry Society is pleased to support and publicise these groups and the events they organise.
On Sunday 27th May at 3:00PM Our most distinguished member Catherine Dell will be giving a talk on:
Dear Members,
As we rush around capturing the precious rainfall in our hose free land may I submit once again my humble pale to collect your precious words that Twelve Rivers might flow again.
The next issue is due to come out at the beginning of July and to that end I am asking that you make your submissions by the 31st of May.
In this Olympics year SPS members may be interested in the forthcoming issue of Modern Poetry in Translation 3/17, called 'Parnassus', which includes poems from all over the world with this theme.
Some sample poems can be read on the website (go to 'Contents' - Poems) including a translation from Pindar's First Olympian Ode translated from the ancient Greek by one of our SPS members.

The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is an opportunity for any young poet aged 11-17 to accelerate their writing career. Since it began 15 years ago the Award has kick-started the career of some of today’s most exciting new voices, including this year’s judge Helen Mort, a highly successful poet whose next collection is to be published by Chatto & Windus (whose alumni include A.S. Byatt, Toni Morrison and poet Ruth Padel). Helen is joined by the acclaimed Costa Award winning poet, Christopher Reid, on the judging panel.
