The starting point in Robert Seatter’s workshop was The places we come from… (which included Australia, South Africa and the USA, as well as various parts of England, including East Anglia and Beccles itself).
From the converging point of the peaceful and welcoming venue of the 18th century Friends Meeting House in Beccles town centre we then looked outwards again, writing about the places we end up, or would like to end up, real or imagined…
Robert made sure we worked hard to gain maximum benefit from our three hour workshop, running the event with a professional iron fist in a velvet glove, sharing his wide experience as poet, teacher, publisher, journalist and broadcaster.
Most of the group were able to take part in a sociable supper at a local pub between the workshop and Robert’s evening reading, for which we were joined by an additional audience. We were treated to a choice of his poetry which struck a lovely balance between the accessible and the thought-provoking. This was followed by questions from the floor, and a lively open mike session wrapped up the day.
The event was partly sponsored by Suffolk Poetry Society’s Bungay Library Group, which welcomes new members. Contact Elizabeth Bracken on 01502 715907
