The 21st May 2015 marked the first anniversary of Felixstowe Café Poets. The café was instigated by Penny Cutler.
To mark their first anniversary, the café had produced an anthology of poetry entitled Awakening. Colin Whyles and Cameron Hawke Smith were invited to represent SPS and launch the anthology.
Colin talked about the roles he fulfils for SPS to raise awareness of SPS and its activities to those present who were not members. He then handed over to Cameron, who introduced the anthology.
For a first anthology from a café, the standards are very high both in terms of production and content. Every poem has an associated photograph which means the book is in full colour and high gloss throughout.
Some names familiar to SPS regulars are represented, such as Frank Wood, David Healey and Kaaren Whitney. The photographs were all taken by another member of the café, Jim Nind, who is also represented in poetry.
A remarkable achievement.
After the launch and break there were the usual readings from the floor. Each café seems to have its own character, and Felixstowe has its own. Must be the sea air.
'Awakening' can be purchased from Stillwater Books Hamilton Road Felixstowe or Woodbridge Books, 66 Thoroughfare, Woodbridge.
