Chapter & Verse - January 2017

The subject of my newsletter for this month, the beginning of a new year, January 2017, is Robert Burns. I'm sure you will have heard of him.

AGM 12th March

Happy New Year! The committee is now preparing for the AGM on 12th March 2-5pm at St John’s Hall, Woodbridge. Along with membership cards/membership renewal forms, we have just sent out nomination forms which should be completed by anyone who is willing to stand as a trustee for next year at the AGM. Completed forms (with proposers and seconders) should be signed and sent back to the Secretary by 27th January. All those standing, proposing and seconding should ensure they have paid their subscriptions in order to nominate and vote.

Once again SPS brings the Festival of Suffolk Poetry to the heart of the county at the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts in Stowmarket for its fourth outing.

Writing Poetry – a new course taught by Rebecca Goss

Rebecca Goss has taught creative writing at all levels, in a variety of settings, at universities, schools, literary festivals, as well as working with bigger organisations such as The Arvon Foundation.

In 2017, she will tutor a poetry writing course at her local library in Hadleigh, Suffolk. Beginning on January 18th, it will run every Wednesday evening, for ten weeks, ending on March 29th.  Aimed at intermediate level, numbers will be kept small, with ten writers, so they can work closely as a group.

More information about the course can be found below:

Aldeburgh Gazette invites poetry submissions

The Aldeburgh Gazette is a fortnightly publication, and it has begun to invite submissions of poetry from members.

Some have already been printed, so this is an interesting new outlet for your poems.

Send your poems plus a short, outline biography to Peter Adshead, aldegazeditor@btconnect.com. Submissions have to be submitted by 4pm on the Thursday the week before publication. The publisher’s decision is final and there is no guarantee of inclusion of items.
